Before you download it, Apple scanned KODEMON for malware and stamped it with its seal of approval (notarization). It's the same security check that runs for software distributed outside the App Store. Your Mac verifies it on its own the first time you open it.
Don't believe us? Check it yourself. Open Terminal and run this on the downloaded file:

You'll see source=Notarized Developer ID and our real Apple Team ID: 6C4FSP4UNU. That code is tied to our actual registered Apple developer identity. A fake app can't fake it.

Not a metaphor. A living layer made of data, memory, signals and errors. NanoLabs discovered it years ago. This app gives you access.
NanoLabs assigned you a KODEMON.
An adaptive core built to explore the Nexus alongside you. Its fuel doesn't come from the Nexus — it comes from what you do on your Mac every day. Arrives as an egg, grows through your real work, and over time becomes something NanoLabs didn't anticipate.
Explore the Nexus, capture KODEMON, fill the Kodex and report any anomaly you find inside. Your KODEMON doesn't go to the Nexus without you. That's not how this works.
The Kodex.
Inside the Nexus there's a catalog with 68 KODEMON species organized in four lineages: Glitch, Specter, Beast and Data. Each KODEMON has an element, a rarity and its own behavior. The Kodex existed before NanoLabs found the Nexus. Nobody knows how long.
Your work and the adventure go hand in hand.
Every skill you use in the notch gives your KODEMON XP. That XP makes you both stronger for every expedition. The mission moves forward while you work. You're not playing around your computer.

What you need to know
Is it really free?
Yes. The starter pack with 4 skills + Digital Nexus is completely free. Founder Pass ($9.99) and Ancient Founder ($19.99) are optional and unlock extra content. Both are one-time payments.
Do I need an account?
No. It works fully offline, no signup, no login. If you want to save your progress to the NanoLabs cloud and access the Global Kodex, you can create an optional account.
Do I lose progress if I buy later?
Never. Paying never breaks or resets your LV/XP progress. That's the golden rule.
Does it work on Macs without a notch?
Yes. There's a visual bridge fallback for notch-less Macs.
Does it sync between Macs?
With an optional account you can sync your Kodex and progress between Macs through the NanoLabs cloud. Without an account, everything stays saved locally.
What data ever touches the internet?
Very little, and always under your control. KODEMON runs 100% locally: your skills, your progress and your captured KODEMON are processed and stored on your Mac. The internet only comes into play in two explicit cases: validating your license if you bought the Founder Pass, and syncing your game progress only if you enable the optional Global Kodex account. Without that account, nothing ever leaves your Mac. And even if you enable it, only your game progress syncs: no tracking, no third-party analytics, and no personal data is ever collected.
What Mac do I need?
Any Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. You don't need a notch: there's a visual bridge fallback for Macs without one. Distributed as an Apple-notarized DMG, outside the App Store.
Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?
Because KODEMON needs permissions the App Store sandbox doesn't allow, and those permissions are exactly what make it useful: living in the notch, detecting what you're listening to in your browser, responding to your gestures and global shortcuts. Apple doesn't allow that level of system integration inside the App Store. It's the same reason beloved Mac tools like Bartender, Alfred, Raycast and CleanShot are also sold outside it. In exchange, Apple still reviews and signs every version you download (notarization), so you're not losing security, you're just getting an app that can do more.
How do updates work?
KODEMON updates itself automatically and verifies every update against the developer's signature before installing it. Nobody can slip a fake version in. It's the same technology (Sparkle) used by Bartender, Transmit, and hundreds of professional Mac apps.
